Functioneer
Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
Functioneer (operated by Leson Visagie) is the responsible party for personal information collected through www.functioneer.co.za. We process it in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and your rights.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form).
- Optional details: a phone number, if you give one at checkout.
- Orders and tickets: what you bought, when, the amounts and payment references, and when each ticket was scanned at the entrance.
- Organiser details: organisation names, logos, team members and their roles.
- Technical details: your IP address and browser type, kept with your sign-in sessions and in security logs.
- We do not collect or store card or banking details. You enter those on PayFast's secure pages.
2. Why we use it
- To run your account and keep it secure.
- To sell you tickets, take payment through PayFast and deliver your tickets.
- To let organisers check tickets at the entrance and contact ticket holders about their event (for example a change of time).
- To process cancellations and refunds and answer your questions.
- To keep the financial records the law requires.
- To prevent fraud and misuse.
3. Who we share it with
- The organiser of the event you buy tickets for: your name, email address, phone number (if given) and ticket details, so they can run the event and admit you.
- PayFast, to process your payment and any refund.
- Our service providers, who process information only on our instructions: Resend (sending emails), Render (hosting our website and database) and Cloudflare (website security and delivery).
- Authorities, only where the law requires it.
We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising. Some of our service providers store information outside South Africa (our database is hosted in the European Union), in countries with data protection laws that give protection comparable to POPIA.
4. Emails we send
We send emails you need: your tickets, password resets, and notices about refunds or changes to events you have tickets for. We don't send marketing emails.
5. Cookies
We use only essential cookies: to keep you signed in, to let you switch between accounts, and to open an order you have just paid for. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open. Order and payment records are kept for five years, as South African tax law requires, even if you close your account. Security logs are kept for a short time only.
7. How we protect it
Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, tickets carry signed QR codes that can't be forged, and access to organiser and HQ tools is limited to the people who need it.
8. Young people
Learners and anyone under 18 may use Functioneer with the permission of a parent or guardian. We collect only what is needed to issue and check their tickets.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct or update it;
- delete it, or close your account, except records we must keep by law;
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email us to do any of these. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
